‘The Five’ Weighs in on Pelosi’s Unemployment Comments: Could Not Cut a Better Ad for the GOP

On Friday, “The Five” hosts portrayed House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as giving the Republican Party a gift when she downplayed the importance of record-low unemployment under President Donald Trump.

Pelosi was asked on Thursday whether 3.8 percent unemployment, the lowest level in 18 years, was “good news.”

In response, the House Minority Leader seemed to downplay it, suggesting that it wasn’t a big deal without wage growth and an improvement to consumer confidence.

“They’ll be saying: ‘Hip, hip hooray, unemployment is down! What does that mean to me in my life? I need a bigger paycheck.’” Pelosi said, imitating American families.

For Fox News host Jesse Watters, that response was like a pre-made advertisement for the Republican Party.

Watch his comments below:

“I don’t know what Pelosi is talking about,” he said on Friday. “When you combine that with, ‘Oh woopty doo, the jobless numbers are down,’ and ‘crumbs,’ and MS-13 — they have a spark of dignity inside them — those are just made-to-order Republican ads.

“She could not cut a better ad for the Republicans than she has so far,” Watters continued. “Nancy, we love you.”

Trump made a similar comment about Pelosi when she argued that the benefits flowing from tax reform were just “crumbs” for American families.

“So I think her statement crumbs will be equivalent — I said this the other day for the first time. When I first heard the word deplorable, I thought it was a bad thing,” Trump said, comparing Pelosi’s comments to former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s.

While co-hosting “The Five” on Friday, Fox’s Kimberly Guilfoyle called Pelosi “out of touch.”

“If that’s the future of the Democratic Party, they are in big trouble going into the midterm elections and going into 2020,” she said, referring to Pelosi’s comments.
