While Other Athletes Boycott White House, Alabama Football Player Invites Trump to Join Team in Prayer

President Donald Trump hosted the Alabama Crimson Tide football team at the White House on Tuesday to celebrate its College Football Playoff national championship, and the team used the visit as a ministry opportunity.

Not long after Trump delivered his remarks, the group of football players circled around him and began to pray with the commander in chief. Trump could be seen bowing his head as one athlete placed his hand on the president’s shoulder:

According to Alabama sports reporter Christina Chambers, it was punter JK Scott who suggested the moment of prayer, and Trump was quick to oblige.

Just moments before, CBN News reported, Trump congratulated the Crimson Tide on their victory, saying, “Each of you here today is here because of your grit, your drive, your dedication, and your incredible teamwork.”

Author and humanitarian Johnnie Moore, an informal faith adviser to the president, tweeted a photo of Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and his Cabinet earlier this week, noting he “always” begins their meetings with prayer:

As for Scott, in 2016, he told the Fellowship of Christian Athletes that his “identity is in Christ, not in football.”

“And that changes everything,” he continued. “When I truly believe what he says about me, nothing else really matters. My boldness and courage come from that.”
