Melania Trump gifted with ornate egg that opens to reveal a miniature of the Trumps

The egg industry presented Melania Trump with a special gift on Monday inspired by her very own “elegance.” The first lady received a rhinestone-encrusted egg that opens up to depict miniature versions of herself and her husband.

Gifting a commemorative egg to the first lady has been an annual tradition of the industry since 1977.

Melania receives rhinestone encrusted egg

The ornate egg, entitled “Wings of Prayer,” was inspired by Melania’s “elegance” and was presented to Melania by the American Egg Board to mark the presidential couple’s second Easter in the White House. The 2018 Commemorative Egg has tiny latch doors resembling wings that open up to reveal a miniature version of the first couple.

The richly decorated egg was fashioned by an artist from Texas, Deborah Grassel. The American Egg Board said Grassel took inspiration from none other than Melania herself in envisioning the beautiful piece. Melania’s “elegance comes to life in the ornate nature of the design, which is adorned in rhinestones,” the organization said.

“Beautiful angel wings open to expose an intricate scene over a handmade bridge where, if you look closely, you can see a Koi fish swimming in the water beneath.”

American tradition

Since 1977, it has been a tradition of the American Egg Board, which represents the national egg industry, to present the first lady with a commemorative egg as part of the annual White House egg roll. The Board draws inspiration for the egg from the first lady and the “Egg Roll itself.”

“Previously, Commemorative Eggs have reflected the passions and public interest of America’s first ladies and their respective favorite pastimes, like reading, and personal color preferences,” a spokesman said in an email to Business Insider.

The Board presented the gift to Melania on Monday at the annual White House egg roll, which it also sponsors each year.

Thousands of children rolled eggs on the White House lawn on Monday to mark the spring tradition as Melania and her husband looked on. Barron Trump joined his parents in hosting the event.

A fitting tribute

Polls show that a majority of Americans approve of Melania.

It isn’t hard to see why. The first lady is classy and kind, and a loving mother to her 12 year-old-son, Barron. This gift is a fitting tribute to Melania’s good qualities.
