Alabama Football Coach Wasn’t About to Let His Players Boycott WH Visit — His Plan Worked

Sadly, we have seen several championship sports teams decide that the personal politics of the members of the team is more important than patriotism and our country in general. Teams have refused to travel to the White House to meet President Trump. The Golden State Warriors are probably the most prominent example. They basically told the president that politics is more important than country.

That’s really a shame.

Luckily, the University of Alabama football team didn’t feel that way.

Almost every single person on the football team showed up to meet Trump.

Here’s why.

From The Daily Caller:

Boycotting a trip to the White House was not an option for the members of the Alabama football team on Tuesday. Nick Saban made sure of that.

Almost every championship team that has visited the White House during Donald Trump’s presidency has had at least one player skip out for political reasons. That was not the case Tuesday when Trump welcomed the legendary head coach and the Crimson Tide on the South Lawn of the White House.

“Coach Saban addressed it and just said, ‘Hey, we’re doing this regardless of your political thoughts. We’re going, just to celebrate this team. It’s an honor. And just to be able to say that you’ve gone to the White House is something that you can cherish forever.’ So that was basically the extent of that,” offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher recalled.

Sounds like Coach Saban set the correct tone from the beginning.

‘Hey, we’re doing this regardless of your political thoughts.’

Love it.

Obviously, teams have the right to do whatever they want but there’s no rational reason to politicize a White House visit. Trump is everyone’s president whether they like it or not. The right thing to do is visit the White House regardless of who is in power because it’s not about you. It’s about the fans and it’s about the country.

Here’s more on the visit.

From Fox Sports:

President Donald Trump hailed the University of Alabama football team’s ”win for the ages” in their latest championship season.

Trump hosted Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban and his players at the White House on Tuesday to honor their fifth national title in nine years.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a former Alabama senator, was among those on the South Lawn for the team visit.

Trump praised Saban’s ”Process” for success and said the coach could ”make a lot of money” if he were able to sell the formula.

”In the national championship game, you stuck to `The Process,’ even when it was looking pretty tough,” the president said. ”I was watching. I said, `Coach, not looking too good.’ Down 13-to-nothing at halftime to a great Georgia team, these champions fought back as they did all season long. And they kept fighting and fighting.”

Interesting that Sessions was there with everything that’s going on with his relationship with Trump but him being from Alabama takes precedence over his beef apparently.

Props to the Alabama football team for their victory and props to Saban for doing the right thing with his team.
