FLASHBACK: Barack Obama ‘guaranteed’ the FBI wasn’t influenced by politics – he lied

Former President Barack Obama’s words have come back to haunt him.

The former president told host Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday in April 2016 that he guaranteed there was no political influence in the Department of Justice investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

But documents released by the FBI in recent weeks have shown otherwise.

What He Said

“I guarantee it. I guarantee that there is no political influence in any investigation conducted by the Justice Department or the FBI, not just in this case, but in any case. Full stop. Period,” Obama told Wallace. “Guaranteed. Full stop. Nobody gets treated differently when it comes to the Justice Department because nobody is against the law.”

“Even if [Clinton] ends up as the Democratic nominee?” Wallace pressed.

“How many times do I have to say it, Chris? Guaranteed,” former President Obama concluded.

But in the same interview, the former president took Clinton’s side, defending her and her handling of classified emails:

And what I also know, because I handle a lot of classified information, is that there are — there’s classified, and then there’s classified. There’s stuff that is really top secret top secret, and there’s stuff that is being presented to the president or the secretary of state, that you might not want on the transom, or going out over the wire, but is basically stuff that you could get in open source.

I continue to believe that she has not jeopardized America’s national security. Now what I’ve also said is that — and she has acknowledged — that there’s a carelessness, in terms of managing e-mails, that she has owned, and she recognizes.

“But I also think it is important to keep this in perspective. This is somebody who has served her country for four years as secretary of state and did an outstanding job. And no one has suggested that in some ways, as a consequence of how she’s handled e-mails, that that detracted from her excellent ability to carry out her duties,” Obama added.

It Wasn’t True

Whether the former president knew what was happening is a matter of some debate, but it is no longer debatable that political influence played a role in the investigation into Clinton’s private email server.

Worse, there’s good reason to believe that he not only knew what was going on, but played an active role in covering it up.

It has been discovered that FBI employees Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, who played key roles in the investigation, despised Donald Trump and wanted Hillary Clinton to win the presidential election.

The texts also unveiled that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe knew about emails related to the investigation being discovered on the laptop of former Democratic New York Rep. Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of top Clinton aide, Huma Abedin. McCabe sat on these emails for a month before former FBI Director James Comey informed Congress, the Wall Street Journal reported.

And House Rep. Devin Nunes’s (R-Calif.) recently-released memo showed that the basis for a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant to spy on President Trump campaign employee Carter Page was based on the dossier of British spy Christopher Steele, who told the FBI that he was “desperate” for Trump to lose the election.

Knowing this, it appears that yet another one of former President Barack Obama’s promises was not worth a thing. What a shame.
